Alfie is a handsome Afghan hound with a luxurious faux fur head and tail. His coat is brown corduroy with hand embroidered features. His collar is a stitched cloth tied in a bow. Alfie is 25cm (10 inches) tall and 30cm (12 inches) long. Thanks to a part filling of sand, he weighs a doorstopping 1.2Kg approx.

The Afghan Hound is one of the oldest breeds of dogs. Afghans are sighthounds, so called because they hunt by sight and speed as opposed to scent and endurance. Originating in Afghanistan, they were originally bred to hunt gazelles and hares (so don't leave Harley Hare in the same room with him). Their silky thick coat protected them in the cold Afghan mountains. They can seem aloof to people that don't know them but many owners find they enjoy a silly game. The 'What A Mess' series of children's books by Frank Muir was about an Afghan hound puppy.
