Like all basset hounds, Fred is friendly dog and very good with children so you will find him perfect for sitting by your door and greeting all who go by. Basset is French for 'rather low' but Fred says this refers to his short legs rather than his character. He is made from black faux leather and tan suedette with hand stitched and button features. He is 24cm (10 inches) tall and weighs a doorstopping 1.2Kg thanks to a part filling of sand.

The basset hound's sense of smell is second only to a bloodhound which is great for sniffing out supper. Perhaps the most famous bassets feature in a comic strip by Alex Graham and in the advertisements for Hush Puppies shoes.
